The first thing that goes through your mind when you get an injury or struggle with pain is... ' who should I call first?
This is a tough decision, if you are not sure about why you're in pain or what the injury might be.
We see patients that have tried other routes first and have not found any improvements...
But in some cases we see people that do not need chiropractic, and should go see another health care practitioner.
Here at Capital Sports Medicine we care about you, so if chiropractic is not the best place of you, we will point you in the right direction.
When Your Pain is a Sign of Something That Could Be Serious
It's always important to make sure to rule out anything that might be more sinister that needs immediate medical attention.
The body is very complex, and most symptoms can be similar between conditions. So try not to worry if you think it could be something more serious.
Here are the big red flags that we look for:
-
severe pain
-
worsening/constant pain
-
night time pain that wakes you up
-
significant unexplained and unintentional weight loss
-
significant trauma - sports injury where you have been tackled
-
pins and needles in both legs
-
significant loss of strength in both limbs
-
inability to pass urine
-
inability to feel when going to the toilet around your genital area
-
loss of control when passing stools
If you have these red flags, please call 911 or speak to your general practitioner.
Are You Motivated Enough To See Results?
At Capital Sports Medicine we want to put a stop to your pain. We want to get you back doing the things that are important to you while making sure it doesn't come back.
We understand this requires time and commitment to a plan.
Remember... Rome wasn't build in a day...
You are making changes in how you move on a daily basis. We only treat people who are motivated and committed to getting the results they want.
If your injury injury isn't important enough, and you don't know how your day to day is affected... then now is not the right to call a chiro...
We found that the most committed patients are those who have been to chiro, and physio, but the pain came back... They feel deeply about their injury and have a clear and achievable goal in mind.
The more motivated and committed to the plan you are, the better your results.
Chiropractic is a profession that helps millions of people each year to recover and rehabilitate from injury. People with more serious injuries should always seek urgent medical help.
Are You Looking For A Quick Fix?
Did you know that chiropractors are not magicians?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there's no such thing as a quick fix. If you find yourself at a chiropractor with pain... it may be a result of bad movement habits that you've picked up over several years.
Please don't expect your pain/problem to be resolved in 1-2 sessions... you'll be disappointed in the end...
At Capital Sports Medicine, we take pride in our ability to clear pain and stop it from coming back long term...
So if you're looking for a quick place, then Capital Sports Medicine isn't the place for you...
Understand that the quick fixe helps manage the surface level symptoms... but it will only be a matter of time before the deeper problem comes back.
How a Chiro Can Help
In an assessment we will find the tissues that do not like to lengthen, which restricts your movement and cause you pain. We will also identify the areas that don't like loading like the others.
We will plan out a rehab program that is specific to the movements that you do every day!
We will suggest a number of sesions so that you have an idea of how long this process may take for you.
Your therapist will provide hands on treatment and prescribe exercises that allow you to move efficiently without those painful flare ups.
