A patient asked me this today, and I said "It depends."

It depends on whether or not you are able to do the things you need to do!

In this patient's case, he wanted to be able to exercise without back pain. He could sit through his work day without any pain. Just because the pain is currently gone, does not mean that it won't come back.

Pain is a signal from your body that an area of the body is working to hard, or undergoing too much stress. Pain disappears when that signal is no longer being sent. This does not mean that we've solved WHY that area has been working too hard.

Pain is a great place to start on your journey to a better life, but it's not where the journey ends.

Going back to our patient, we found that the reason why his neck was bothering him is because it is involved in all of his activities. When he stands up, he builds tension in his neck. When he is working at his desk, he sits in a way that his neck was always working.

We're working to make sure that he can continue living his life without the neck pain coming back.  We don't do repeat visits.

If you want a better idea and an in depth assessment to find the route cause of the problem give us a call at 301-328-0186 to book your assessment today.
