Hey! It's Dr. Byron here. With fall (I know... I can't believe summer is over) around the corner, you've got to to start preparing yourself for all the house maintenance. Here are 2 exercises to keep your back relaxed and pain-free this fall.
1) Split Squat
This is my favorite exercise for warming up my legs. We make sure that your low back is not allowed to work so that your legs have to move you.
Start with whatever leg you want with the other leg slightly behind. Relax your body and tuck your chin to your chest. Reach down to the floor, slowly bend the knee of your front foot, and let the weight shift back to the heel. Once you're at the bottom, shift forwards to the middle of your foot and push through it until you stand all the way up. Keep your chin tucked and knee forward.
2) Standing back relaxation to floor
This is a great exercise because it gets you moving, and it also prepares you to pick things off the ground. It makes sure that you can get your low back moving from top to bottom. It also makes sure that you engage through the feet to come up. This makes sure that you lift with your legs and not with your knees. As you are cleaning up your yard of all the leaves and debris that have already started to fall.
